WEEK ONE _ Dino Unicorn & Comp. Notebook MENU#1

A.) Dino Unicorn _ This is your Life

Today we experimented with organizing our Dino-Unicorn Panels eventually arriving at our best 7-panel sequence. For homework finish preparing for publication by making a ‘Cover Page’ for the comic.

Your Cover should include:

1. text and image. 
2. Title _ Come up with a title unique to your story. Letter it with intention towards design.
3. Attribution _ Include “by Joe Artist” (your own name or selected pseudonym) somewhere on the cover. 

Format and materials are the same as all other cards: 

•       Use 3x5” index cards, one-side only, vertical-orientation. 

•       Use Flair pen. Black/White/’Optical’ Grey only. 

•       denote the “Live Area” by drawing a rectangle as a panel border!

Somewhere on the last panel of the comic (#7 in your sequence) letter “The End.” 

Bring all of this with you Weds. 9/3 and we will print and assemble our Dino Unicorn comic books. 

B.) Composition Notebook _ Week One MENU

We also discussed The Composition Notebook and completed your first Daily Diary entry.
The composition book will play a very large in your production for this class. 

Here's a copy of the MENU which you should have taped into your notebook. Check off the items as you complete each prompt. Complete as many as you can before you receive the Week Two MENU on Weds., 9/3.

Week 1 _ Beginnings

Today we did some attendance drawings together and went through the syllabus to go over the course structure. 

We drew DINO UNICORN and scenes from its life on index cards. I'd like you to continue this exercise for homework _ DUE, Weds. 8/27

Dino Unicorn: This is Your Life (Continued)  

Keeping your character design and visual language consistent with the panels that you made in class, use the following prompts to draw other moments in Dino Unicorn’s story. (Draw at least 8 of these>>>)

• In a fight/disagreement
• Pigging out
• On a date
• Working Out
• Cleaning the “house”
• Feeling blue
• Late for something important
• Packing for an adventure
• Mid-way through an adventure
• Underwater
• Using some kind of “technology”
• Hiding from someone bigger

FORMAT:

• Use 3x5” index cards, one-side only, vertical-orientation. 

• Use Flair pen. Black/White/’Optical’ Grey only. 

• Don’t forget to denote the “Live Area” by drawing a rectangle within each card as a panel border!

• Use a timer! (the length of a song for each panel)

Bring these and the panels that you drew today to class for an activity on Wednesday!
